India Rising:
The Unstoppable Trajectory
3rd in global AI. Fastest-rising G20 in university rankings. Digital infrastructure the world is copying. And a humanitarian legacy the UN showcases. Here’s the India they don’t tell you about.

Something remarkable is unfolding in India — a transformation so data-rich and globally recognised that it should be impossible to miss. Yet periodically, a narrative surfaces that reduces 1.4 billion builders to a single embarrassing incident.
The latest: a video commentary used the Galgotias robo-dog fiasco at the India AI Summit to declare India is “not an AI top dog” and should “aspire but not pretend.” The university was rightly ejected. The incident was embarrassing. But one stunt doesn’t define a nation.
Let the data do the talking.

The fastest university rise in the G20
From 11 ranked universities in 2015 to 54 in 2026.
A 390% rise — the strongest in the G20.
QS Rankings 2026
54 universities
4th most represented country globally
IIT Delhi at 123rd (↑27). IIT Madras jumped 47 places. Six in the global top 250. Eight in the world’s top 100 for Citations per Faculty — scoring higher than Germany, the UK & the US.
THE Rankings 2026
2nd in the world
By total ranked universities — behind only the US
90+ institutions featured. IISc Bengaluru back in the top 250. IIT Bombay, Delhi, Madras in the top 500–600. The US itself hit its lowest-ever top-500 count (102).
The NEP 2020 momentum is real — 48% of ranked universities improved positions this year. India produces 3 million+ STEM graduates annually. The world’s most valuable companies — Microsoft, Google, Adobe — trust Indian talent to lead them.
Yes, problems exist. Ghost faculty at Anna University — exposed by its own investigation. Fake degree rackets — busted by Kerala police. The Supreme Court warning lawyers on AI petitions — judicial vigilance, not failure. India airs its laundry in public. That’s democracy working, not a system collapsing.

Service at scale — recognised by the United Nations
The commentary signed off praising a Kerala family who installed a roadside water cooler. A lovely gesture. But if we’re talking about India and water, there’s a much bigger story the UN itself has showcased.
